Cold Storage Solar Cooling Facility
The Challenge
A cold storage facility in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, faced crippling power bills due to continuous refrigeration compressor loads running 24/7. Because cold storages must keep agricultural products at sub-zero temperatures, electricity represents their largest single operating cost. Grid tariff hikes directly threatened the viability of the storage business, especially during the hot summer months.
The Solution
SOLEV installed a high-performance 300 kWp solar plant designed to peak precisely when solar heat is highest and cooling demand is at its maximum. By syncing the compressor cycles with peak solar generation hours, we dramatically reduced grid draws. The solar panels also act as an additional shading layer over the cold storage roof, lowering the internal thermal gain of the building.
The Results & ROI
The facility reduced its monthly grid power bill by over 45%, translating to ₹28 Lakhs in yearly savings. By shielding the compressors from high commercial grid tariffs and reducing the building's thermal heat load, operational margins stabilized. The investment will break even in 3.1 years, creating a strong hedge against future utility tariff hikes.
"Transitioning this site to solar was not just about instant utility cost savings, but securing stable operational overheads against tariff inflation for the next two decades."
